Butkiewicz tosses five touchdowns to lead Southington

NEWINGTON — Connor Butkiewicz threw for 259 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Southington football team to a 32-21 win against Newington Friday night.

Wide receiver Tyler Dube caught 11 passes for 117 yards and two of Butkiewicz’s touchdown throws.

Butkiewicz also connected with Anthony Florian, Kyle Lentini and K.J. Gemmell on scores.

Joe Pesce led the Southington defense with four sacks, while Matt O’Connor had an interception.

Newington’s Jonathan Snyder finished 6-of-9 passing for 58 yards.

The Indians had success running on the Blue Knights, particularly in the first half.

Jeremy Rodriguz broke off long touchdown runs of 44 and 74 yards in the first half, while Freddy Ortiz had a 45-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Rodriguz finished the game with 135 rushing yards and Ortiz finished with 73 yards.

Dylan Danko led Southington’s ground attack with 123 rushing yards.

Southington improved to 5-3 overall, while Newington dropped to 3-5.
